In the shadow of the Queets River, Kwate, the Changer, s’qitu, the Great Spirit, waded through the cold waters. As he rubbed the blood back into his legs, small rolls of earth gathered beneath his hands. He cast them into the waters and from the depths emerged a man and a woman, the progenitors of the Queets people. Kwate, his voice like the rumbling of distant thunder, spoke, “You shall remain by this river, and you shall be known as K’witzqu, for the soil from which your skin was made.” The river, they say, took its name from the Quinault word for “dirt.”
In the heart of the Olympic Peninsula, where the Queets River carves its path through the ancient rainforest, the fog hangs heavy in the air, a shroud of mystery that cloaks the verdant landscape. The towering trees, their trunks moss-covered and ancient, stand sentinel over the river, their roots reaching deep into the earth. The scent of ferns, vetiver and labdanum mingles with the dampness of the forest floor, a primal aroma that speaks of the wild and untamed. A ribbon of silver in the forest, the river flows over rocks worn smooth by the passage of time, a symphony of sound that fills the air. Description
Queets River candles are crafted using a base fragrance oil called “Fog & Fern” by Candle Science, and infused with the earthy scents of vetiver, cedarwood, labdanum and petrichor. Each candle is housed in a green matte glass jar with a gold mirror finish on the inside, which enhances the flicker of the flame, topped with a black lid. The wicks are made from hemp and coated in beeswax. With a 12% fragrance load, this candle delivers a powerful scent throw (both cold and hot) that will envelop your space in the earthy aroma of the Queets River.
